It’s that time of the year again – Valentine’s Day!  Whether you’re spending the day with your special someone, family, or celebrating Galentine’s Day, you are going to want some sweet treats to share with the ones you love.  Here are three easy Valentine’s Day snacks perfect for the occasion that you could even make in your dorm!

Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark

Chocolate is a Valentine’s Day staple, and adding pink and red chocolate and heart sprinkles gives you the chance to get creative and make it your own.  Then, dried cherries give this sweet treat a more complex flavor than your average chocolate bar.

What you’ll need:

1 bag of cocoa chocolate melts

3 bags of colored candy melts, in white, pink, and red

½ cup dried cherries

A variety of red, pink, and heart shaped sprinkles

Wax paper

  1. Melt the whole bag of cocoa chocolate melts, according to the instructions on the bag.
  2. On a tray lined with wax paper, spread the chocolate into a thin layer. Allow to cool completely.
  3. Melt the whole bag of white candy melts (according to the instructions on the bag) and spread evenly over the hardened chocolate layer.
  4. Before the white layer hardens, melt about a half of the pink and red candy melts and swirl it into the white layer, creating a marbled look.
  5. Spread the dried cherries and sprinkles evenly across the bark.
  6. Allow the bark to harden thoroughly, then peel it off of the wax paper and break it into multiple pieces.  Then enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Chex Mix

It’s such an easy treat to make, and it has so many uses!  This recipe creates a great size to share with friends or serves as enough to have snacks to bring to your classes for a while! But the best thing about this recipe is that it’s easily customizable, you can add a lot of what you love or none of what you don’t.

What you’ll need:

2 cups Vanilla Chex cereal

2 cups itty bitty mini pretzels (or any small pretzel)

½ cup conversation hearts

¾ cup cupid’s mix M&M’S

½ cup peanuts

Combine all the ingredients and enjoy!  Feel free to add more of your favorite ingredients or less of others.

Valentine’s Day Rice Krispie Bars

The classic recipe for the Rice Krispie Treats you love, modified to be pink and perfect as a Valentine’s Day snack.

What you’ll need:

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

3 tablespoons butter

1 10 oz package of marshmallows

A few drops of red food coloring

Conversation hearts for decoration

Wax paper

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot on a stovetop.  Once melted, add in the marshmallows and red food dye at medium heat, stirring constantly until melted.  (Don’t have access to a stovetop in your dorm? Place the butter and marshmallows in a large bowl, and cook in the microwave in 30 second increments, stirring in between each one until completely melted.)
  2. Take the pot off the heat, and mix in the cereal.
  3. Line a large square or rectangular dish with wax paper, then pour in the cereal mixture.  Spread the mixture out evenly in the pan.  The easiest way to do so is to use your hands; putting some butter on them prevents the mixture from sticking to your hands!
  4. Press the conversation hearts into the cereal mixture, laying them out, so when it’s cut, each piece has a heart.
  5. Allow to cool completely.  Lift the wax paper and Rice Krispie bar out of the dish, and cut into even pieces.
  6. Enjoy!
