I Tried Bretman Rocks Absolutely Not Ab Challenge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at TAMU chapter.

I think by now we all know who Bretman Rock is right? Only two words to describe him: absolute icon. With over 8 million subscribers on YouTube and 15 million instagram followers, he has made his way to the top of the social media hierarchy. Not only is he a fashion and beauty king, but lately he has been killing the fitness industry as well. A little over a month ago, he posted a workout video on his YouTube channel titled “3 EASY Workouts to Look Cute”.  He starts off the video by showing a couple of stretches, then he goes into a couple of chest workouts that you can do with a couple of light dumbbells, then he goes into a little 10 minute jump rope routine and finally what we’ve all been waiting for: he mentions an ab workout he does and titled it “Absolutely Not!”. This ab challenge consists of:

  • 20 crunches

  • 40 in and outs

  • 60 second plank

    • 30 second rest

  • 20 side to side planks

  • 40 mountain climbers

  • 60 scissors

    • 30 second rest

  • 20 leg raises

  • 40 toe touches

  • 60 second six inches off the ground

Me being the Bretman stan I am, I HAD to try this workout out. In total, he breaks this down into 3 sets of 20, 40, and 60 with a 30 second rest in between each set. I did this little challenge before my leg workout earlier this week because I honestly was not ready for the challenge that awaited me. I workout pretty consistently, but always skip abs because let’s face it, I’d rather save myself from that misery. I started off with the 20 crunches and got to the first half of in and outs and then that’s when the fatigue started hitting me. I finished the in and outs and then went into my plank and then got to my 30 second rest. I wish I was kidding when I said that those 30 seconds felt like 5. I did not think I would be as tired as I actually was. I’m not going to lie, after that first round I took longer than a 30 second break.

Overall, it was a really great workout!! Would I call it easy like Mr.Bretman the icon? Probably not, but I would totally try it again. You can always modify it to fit your needs! Happy exercising queens.

Howdy! I am a senior International Studies Major and Latino Mexican/American Studies minor at Texas A&M University. I enjoy weightlifting and playing soccer, arts and crafts, reading, and taking care of children. I hope to be a teacher someday, hopefully somewhere abroad. I love my family, puppies and food :)
