While getting ready for class the other day, I realized that most of the makeup I had been routinely wearing was still geared towards a slightly warmer climate. As a result, my skin was feeling a little blue. We all update our wardrobes in the winter; why not do the same with makeup!

  • In this North Pole weather, the first thing any girl should invest in is a primer. Not only does it leave your face looking flawless and poreless, but it also prevents your makeup from drying out your skin.
  • On that same note, it is a good idea to switch to a tinted moisturizer instead of your ordinary foundation. You can still get amazing coverage, while keeping your skin moisturized.
  • Don’t forget! Just because it is winter and the weather is dark and gloomy, it doesn’t mean you should skip the sunscreen. All sorts of UV and UVA rays are still emitted in the winter months. Even if you can’t see the sun, it is still there. Trust me.
  • Winged liner is all the rage this winter and I believe we all understand why. It’s an easy way to spice up your makeup without having to go all out. However, it is a good idea to invest in a waterproof formula to avoid from getting it smudged when there’s a cold wind blowing and you inevitably begin to fake cry.
  • The skin on your lips is also super sensitive and although I know we are all dying to wear those super dark shades that come out this season, try and stick to a tinted lip balm instead. Some of them are amazingly pigmented and you won’t even feel like you’re wearing lip balm.  Plus, your lips will thank you later when they are nice and smooth.
  • Time to swap your conventional powder for cream formulas. They retain your skin’s natural moisture a lot better! Opting for a rosy cheek stain with some shimmer will not only give you a healthy appearance, but will add that extra glow factor.
  • Lastly, don’t forget to take off your makeup! There are a thousand alternatives to your conventional makeup remover that will keep your skin hydrated and get your makeup off in seconds. I, personally, love to use makeup wipes. Especially when I’m still settling into the semester and every minute of sleep is precious.
