What do you consider to be the most important part of your life? Is your life directed by this importance? What happens if something else overshadows this priority of yours? Do your life circumstances reflect that change?

I believe that everyone’s life is based on a foundation. How a person acts, what they believe, and what they base their decisions on is all derived from this foundation. For some people, they base their life on the opinions of friends and family. Others make choices based on wanting to be successful in their career. While those parts of life may be important, nothing is more fulfilling than having a foundation in Christ Jesus.

When I was sixteen years old, I realized that I wanted to live a life fully committed to the Lord. Over time, I saw drastic changes in my desires, thoughts, and actions. Because I was being submissive to God, and keeping him as my main priority, I began to see life from a different perspective. Earthly things became less important, and I became more aware of God’s will for my life as I read the Gospel and strengthened my relationship with my Heavenly father.

Over the past two years, I realized that when my focus is on Jesus, I am filled with joy and I feel as though no obstacle can overtake me, but when other desires creep to the forefront of my mind, my life tends to head into a downward spiral. Emotions will start to take control and I feel stuck in a rut with the inability to get back on track. It isn’t easy to keep our eyes on Jesus at all times, but the more we let go of control, the more Christ can soften our hearts so that we long to please him in all that we do.

So what does the Bible say about making God our foundation and main priority?

For one thing, The Lord is a jealous god who doesn’t want anything or anyone to take away from our allegiance to him. Christ is angered when we put our desires of money, reputation, career, or other people ahead of him. He wants us to be fully fixated on his glory and will for our lives. The Bible emphasizes the importance of putting Christ above all else. We must choose to either be followers of the Lord or to remain stuck in the ways of the world. We can’t serve Jesus and still cling to earthly desires. That being said, it is crucial that we let go of everything that may take our attention away from the Almighty God.

It is very easy to become distracted by the chaos happening on earth, but God encourages us to keep our minds concentrated on our spiritual lives. Christ explains that there is more to life than what we eat or the tangible goods that we own. Life on earth is about bringing more people to know Jesus by spreading the truth of the Gospel. No matter how stressful life can get, Christ tells us to look forward to the promise of Eternity where we will be in the presence of our Savior. No hobby, job, friend, or possession will give us the satisfaction that Jesus Christ will. When life gets overwhelming, think about what you are putting ahead of God. Those who are completely reliant on the Lord will be at peace no matter the mayhem that is going on around them.

Now you may be thinking about what you consider to be the most important aspects of your life. Who or what influences the decisions that you make? Is it time to change what your priorities are? I pray that your eyes have been opened to see what life would be like with Jesus in the center of it.

Jesus Christ is my foundation, and I think it’s about time you make him yours.
