EA just announced the “Discover University” expansion pack for The Sims 4 and simmers couldn’t be more excited!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

Earlier this week, EA and The Sims team announced that the next expansion pack for The Sims 4 is going to be “Discover University”. This expansion pack has been anticipated by simmers, including myself, have been hoping for ever since the The Sims 4 release in 2014. The new university pack will include past features from other university packs from previous Sims games, as well as incorporating some new gameplay as well!

The “Discover University” pack will players to send their sims to one of two universities: Foxbury Institue, a modern, engineering based school, or University of Britechester, a liberal arts college with a Ivy League feel. With these two drastically different universities, players will have endless gameplay because how different both campuses feel. Having two different colleges means college rivalries! The reveal video shows students teepeeing important sculptures on campus which I’m hoping leads to fun consequences or new ways to bond with your fellow classmates!

The new trailer also hinted at new skills your sim can build while studying at university! The trailer showcases sims playing soccer, building robots and debating! We don’t get a lot of sports in the sims, besides basketball which we got in the City Living expansion pack, but unlike basketball, I hope our sims can play in actual soccer games with their respective rival school versus shooting free throws and layups like we got with basketball in City Living. The fact that this trailer hints at your sims being able to build their own functional robots made me sooooo excited and I hope we can make different robots that can perform different tasks and build different types of relationships with each robot! Moving onto the potential debating skill, we got a similar action with the City Living pack, but I hope that your sims can build up a debating skill that will help your sim in the political career (or a potential political science major)!

Now, the one thing that really stood out to me in the trailer was the introduction of bikes! Every simmer knows how bad we want new ways of transportation besides walking and the limited boats we got in Island Living, and even though they’re not cars, bikes can be the slow transition into an open world and the possibility of cars! Unlike in other Sims games, the animations for bikes are so much better and showcase how people in the real world actually use bikes, like using a kick stand and parking your bike instead of it disappearing into thin air, bringing a more realistic aspect to the game.

While it might seem like a boring feature, bathroom stalls are making a comeback in this pack so for any builders this feature is for you! Any sim builder knows that making stalls through the use of walls or by downloading custom content is annoying, so bringing back this build mode object will make community lots much more realistic (let’s just hope these stalls leave out the nastiness that are public restrooms)!

The last noteable features of “Discover University” are the bar life and graduation events. Showing college sims hanging out at the local bar on a weekend will give the full college experience to simmers and will possibly lead to new exciting interactions like partying, hooking up and going to the most popular bars that are about about each campus’s culture! Graduation is going to be such an exciting event for your sims! The actual ceremony, potential graduation parties and actually seeing your sim being rewarded for doing well in school is something we haven’t gotten in previous university packs. I also hope that this will introduce graduation for elementary and high school students as instead of just aging up your sims and having them move onto their next stage of their educational career!

Whether you’re looking for your sim to party all four years or study hard and graduate early, the “Discover University” pack is probably going to be one of the best expansion packs The Sims 4 has had and I can’t wait to see all the cool new features within the pack! “Discover University” comes out December 17th and check out all the cool features in the trailer here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyrO4FpACNA !
