Let’s Talk Skincare with Caitlin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

This week, I spoke to Caitlin to find out her skincare routine, favourite products and top tips during exam season!

Hey Caitlin! Let’s get started, what would you describe as your daily skincare routine?

In the mornings, I love to wash my face with Soap and Glory Vitamin C Facial Wash. Its exfoliating and leaves my skin feeling super soft. If I want to cleanse my face further, I use my Clinique Sonic Brush with the same face wash. Following washing my face, I use my Mario Badescu Buttermilk Moisturiser as it has a fresh scent and really hydrates my skin. In the evening, I remove my makeup using my Garnier Micellar Water as this is one of my essential beauty products! I put a small amount on a cotton pad and it removes all of my makeup, even the toughest mascaras! I then apply my No7 Protect & Perfect Eye Cream and Night Cream as these products restore the goodness back into my skin after wearing heavy makeup! I then apply some Carmex Lip Balm as it makes my lips feel smooth and plump!

What are your top 3 skincare products and why?

I would have to say my Garnier Micellar Water as I already mentioned before, as well as my Soap and Glory Righteous Body Butter. Also, I can’t live without my Carmex Lip Balm, I must have one in every bag that I own!

How do you keep your skin healthy during the stressful exam season?

I think it’s important that during exam time, you keep your skin clean and hydrated. It’s very easy to think that because you are staying at home all day studying that you need not to bother doing anything, but I think that feeling clean and refreshed also makes your brain feel refreshed and motivates you to continue! I touch my face a lot while studying, so I make sure I clean it regularly and apply lots of moisturiser. I also do face masks regularly while I’m studying, my favourites are Glam Glow as a premium brand and L’Oreal as a cheaper brand. Taking 15 minutes out of your study schedule to chill with a face mask and zone out really gives you time to recharge your batteries! It’s something I would highly recommend while studying.

What is your favourite skincare brand?

I would say my favourite brand all round would have to be Soap and Glory. I love the face cleaners and face moisturisers from the brand, but also the body butters, lotions, shower gels, bubble baths and exfoliators are amazing too! Also, Soap and Glory do an amazing instant fake tan as well as fresh smelling body sprays, so I think it is a brand you really can’t go wrong with.

What are your 3 biggest skincare don’ts?

1. SLEEPING WITH YOUR MAKEUP ON! There is nothing worse you can do in my opinion. I know, we have all been guilty once in our lives of rolling in from a night out and waking up with our eyes glued shut from our false lashes, but it dries out your skin and clogs your pores!

2. I am no longer a fan of face pore strips, such as the ones made by the Biore skincare brand. They pull at the skin, especially around the eye area and can cause a lot of inflammation.

3. Do not use baby wipes to take your makeup off. I think that using wipes specifically designed for your face works so much better as baby wipes leave your skin dehydrated!

Thanks Caitlin, its been great catching up with you and getting to know your skincare tips!
