“You is smart. You is kind. You is important.”

-Kathryn Stockett, The HelpThose of you who have seen the movie The Help will probably smile when remembering that iconic scene. The fact of the matter is, this applies to all of us. Regardless of where we stand on our self-image, self-confidence, or self-esteem, it is important to say it. It is important to say it because we don’t tell ourselves this enough.

You are unique. You bring something to life that no other person can bring. There may be other people who share your interests, are similar to you intellectually or emotionally. But they do not share the impact on the world that you can create. Each and every impact made by each and every individual matters, is valid, and is real.

Whenever you feel down, overwhelmed, fearful, happy, ecstatic, nervous, or any time of day, repeat to yourself the famous words of Aibileen Clark. Nothing will ring truer.

“You is smart, you is kind, you is important.”
