This Video Describes Stony Brook University Perfectly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

Have you ever thought about all of the things that make Stony Brook University unique? All of its quirks, flaws, and class jokes. In my freshman year at Stony Brook, I found this video of two Stony Brook students mocking things about Stony Brook and the students. I think I have watched this video a total of twelve times. Whenever I am stressed about exams or need a break, sometimes I remember this video and laugh. As a senior in college, I still find things about this video that are so relatable.

While this video is seven years old and some of the things like meal points and the phrase “YOLO” are wildly outdated, many of the same things this video talks about are still very relevant. For example, the extremely strict SINC Site no food or drink rules, everyone on campus being a sociology major, ghost towns on the weekends, and the struggle of being late for class. However, I am down to bring back the phrase “YOLO”. Simple, but inspiring (I’m kidding. That was a joke. Unless…)

In this video, you can see that very little has changed about Stony Brook. That includes the weird smells we come across campus, the wait time for the elevator even if you are only going up one floor, the bus confusion (Chapin especially), and the easiest classes to take. One thing that has changed is the Union, where many of these clips were filmed. The Union was only open during my first semester on campus, before it underwent construction. Sadly, it is still under construction… three years later. I don’t think I will get to experience it’s true beauty, but I guess it’s okay. My short experience with it was sufficient. My few memories in the Union were always interesting to say the least. It is crazy to think that the main Starbucks on campus was actually located in the Union and even a dining hall.

No matter what year it is, college students are still college students. We still think the same way, act the same way, and joke around the same way. Even if this video is on the older side, we can all still appreciate the memories we have at Stony Brook and the same stupid things we say about our campus.

President/Editor-in-Chief here at the Her Campus Stony Brook Chapter! I joined Her Campus in Spring 2018 as a Junior Writer and I am currently majoring in Journalism with a minor in Political Science. My personality is somewhere between Rachel Green and Phoebe Buffay. I call that balance. In my free time you can find me doing... I'm a college student, if I appear to have any free time I'm probably procrastinating.
