The Best Christmas Movies + Snack Pairings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

With the end of the semester approaching, it’s the season to be holly and jolly and make festive plans with your besties. There is nothing better than a movie night with themed snacks.

So grab your bestie, your holiday-themed blanket, and head to the kitchen to make some snacks.

The only snack that Buddy the elf would approve of would be the infamous spaghetti he concocts for himself. If you’re feeling bold, add mini marshmallows, M&Ms, and crushed chocolate pop tarts to cooled spaghetti and top it with chocolate syrup and maple syrup. For something a little simpler, make yourself a cup of coffee (one might even say it’s the world’s best) and make some peppermint chocolate chunk cookies, fitting the elf’s candy cane food group.

The Polar Express is the perfect movie to watch while cuddled up with hot chocolate. Make some hot chocolate bombs with your bestie and customize them with flavored hot chocolate, fancy marshmallows, and fun colored sprinkles. Don’t forget to add a candy cane and whipped cream to your yummy treat and drink it from a festive mug.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a more humorous holiday movie and a perfect watch while drinking eggnog. Whether you make your own or buy it at the grocery store, all that matters is you enjoy it on the couch with people you love cuddled up in a blanket.

Die Hard is in fact a Christmas movie, with a dash of festivity sprinkled over the hardcore action. And while there isn’t an official snack of this action flick, it’s the perfect time to make a bad pun and hip up a pie. Get it, PIE hard, it’s a bad joke. Just giggle. Bake your favorite pie or try a new recipe. For a heartfelt tradition, call your mom or grandma and ask for a family recipe then whip it up and enjoy it while watching the movie.

Enjoy your holiday season. Remember your body is powerful, you are allowed to enjoy treats that make you happy however you please.
