As the semester is quickly approaching it’s end, I see multiple posts about summer reading lists. As an aspiring book publishing professional, this excites me. I know I’m coming up with my own list by reading what’s on the best-seller list, or what’s highly anticipated by the writing community. I have a book that you need to read ASAP.

“Me Before You” by Jojo Moyes is a story that will leave you feeling inspired. The novel has been adapted into a movie, which will be released in June, and before you go see it, you need to read the book. I am one of those people who truly believes that a movie can never do a book justice. There isn’t enough time. And this book is one that truly deserves to be read, every single word.

The book takes place in England and therefore I read the entirety of it in a British accent, making it much more enjoyable if you ask me. It’s about a girl who’s a little lost. She doesn’t know what she wants to do with the rest of her life, and when all of a sudden she reaches a cross-roads, it’s time for her to make a move. She takes a job caring for a young man, one who is a little bit difficult to say the least. But the two characters’ interaction together is comedic, as their personalities differ so significantly.

As we follow both of these characters through their life, getting to know each other and themselves, we learn to love them both. But do not get me wrong, this is not your typical “love story.” I’m not even sure it falls into that category. The book has a twist, and I won’t go into any detail, but all you need to know is that this is not another Nicholas Sparks novel. It’s heart wrenching. But you can learn a lot. The novel inspired me to start living in the moment, and dreaming of the future. It gave me a kick to pursue what I love and step outside of my comfort zone. So before you go see this movie in theaters, give it a read. It’s captivating and I believe everyone can learn something about themselves through this heartwarming, and heartbreaking, novel.

Hey hey hey. I'm Sarah and I'm a psychology major and writing minor at Stony Brook University, and will be graduating December 2016 (I hope). My passions are reading books that make me cry, writing about anything that inspires me (including my dog), and binge watching Netflix. I'm the type of girl who you can go to for advice. I'm always willing to listen and often find that other people's stories help me understand my own!
