When did you start playing basketball?
Brittany: “I was 9 years old when I first starting playing basketball and I was not very good. However I was pretty tall and I loved playing, so every year I got better and better.”
What does it mean to you to be a part of the Stony Brook Women’s Basketball Team?
Brittany: “Being on a team means being a part of something bigger than yourself. I am the person I am today because of how basketball has challenged me and the way my teammates and coaches have pushed me.”
What is one moment that has stuck out to you on your journey?
Brittany: “One moment that has stuck out to me was when a little girl came up to me after our basketball game and said that she wanted to be a doctor because I wanted to be a doctor. It just made me take a step back and realize how big of an effect you can have on people. For that reason, I always strive to be a good person because I want to positively affect everyone around me.”
How do you balance a student athlete’s schedule?
Brittany: “I balance my schedule as a student athlete with a lot of planning and time management skills combined with hard work. There are a lot of different things on the student athlete’s plate, but we have a great support system with our coaches and academic advisors to keep us on the right track.”
What gets you out of bed and keeps you going day-to-day?
Brittany: “What gets me out of bed is wanting to be better than I was the day before, even if I only improve a little, that still is success to me.”
What is the most important lesson you have learned as a person?
Brittany: “The most important lesson I have learned is to be humble. I have worked hard to get where I am, but I also know I am not the best and I know I can always make improvements to get better.”

Do you have any other secret (or not-so-secret) interests?
Brittany: “I love watching Total Divas and it’s probably my favorite show!”
Any advice for young women wanting to become student athletes?Â
Brittany: “Being a student athlete may be tough, but it is a rewarding experience. I have met some of my best friends through basketball and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My only advice would be start working on your time management skills now, because if you have that, then the transition into college will be much easier.”
What do you want your legacy to be?
Brittany: “When I leave Stony Brook I want people to look back and say I was a good teammate and an even better person.”
