6 Ways to Spice Up Last Year’s Coachella Outfit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

Calling all music festival queens! The moment you’ve been waiting for is almost here. Coachella is right around the corner and if the promise of camping, food, art, awesome music and, of course, California aren’t enough to get you hyped, the festival fashion just might do the trick. But if you don’t quite have the budget for a completely new outfit, consider these tips for changing up last year’s look If you for all the Instagram-worthy moments Coachella has to offer.

1. Cut up last year’s tank for a DIY tassel top.

Tassel tops are perfect for showing a little skin in hot weather, and they’re very easy to create yourself, as shown by YouTuber Leila Ramos. Take a pair of scissors to your favorite tank top and cut thin strips halfway up the shirt all the way around the bottom. Make a knot at the end of each strip. Tassel-tastic!

2. Add some sexy side slits to a maxi skirt.

If you want to show a little leg, deep slits are the perfect way to do that. Grab last year’s maxi and a pair of scissors and cut slits on one or both sides of the skirt.

3. Exchange plain shoelaces for crazy, colorful ones.

Sneakers are one of the best footwear choices for a music festival since you’ll likely be up on your feet walking and dancing. Switch out boring, white laces for ones with bright colors or patterns on them. Easy!

4. Be-feather your cross body or clutch.

Save the be-dazzling for fashion week and grab some craft store feathers (no, not the neon pink ones you glued to everything in kindergarten!) There’s nothing a hot glue gun can’t do, so make sure you have one handy. Arrange the feathers in any fashion you’d like and secure them with hot glue.

5. Make DIY friendship bracelets.

Don’t leave for Coachella without some arm candy! Friendship bracelets are the perfect blend of color, DIY and fun patterns. What else would you wear to such an artsy festival!?

6. Turn a mini into a maxi by adding some lace.

Not into your mini skirt from last year? Find some well-cut, sheer material like lace and sew it to the bottom of your mini to create a maxi. Soo cute!

Are you excited yet? I know you are. Which of these tricks will you use for your festival look?
