6 Ways to Spend the Rainy Days During Finals Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stony Brook chapter.

The weather cannot seem to figure out if it is summer, spring or winter. One day it is freezing, the next it is hot, and the following it is rainy. A lot of people find this “come rain or come shine” weather annoying, especially the come rain part. But for me, when it rains, it gives me an excuse to stay inside and get work done (or sometimes not get work done). Here are a few ways you can spend your rainy days in the coming weeks of finals.

1. Study

We all know finals are scary close. A great way to spend this rainy day is inside, locked in your room at your desk or the library, with your nose deep in that textbook you have neglected to read until this week.

2. Pack

Looking around my room, I feel like the stuff I brought with me from home has doubled. Considering I live far away and don’t have the luxury of making more than one trip, I have some serious packing (and maybe purging )to do, and I am sure I am not alone. Take this rainy day to go through your clothes, beauty products, food, and other junk, and get rid of anything you don’t want to bring home. Take advantage of the packing containers you have by packing in the most efficient ways like the tricks below.

3. Nap

Need a break from studying? I need say no more.

4. Binge-Watch a Series

How about another break from studying? Start watching that Netflix series you have been yearning to see but just haven’t had the time.

5. Read a Book

Not a textbook, or an essay. An actual novel that is not related to school, one you maybe brought from home at the beginning of the year with the intention of reading but never got around to. Hunker down in bed with a nice cup of tea and a cozy blanket, and read that book with the soft sounds of pattering rain in the background.

6. Splish-Splash Relax

If all else fails, get out your finals-week anger, frustration and anxiety by going out in the rain and splashing around.

Whether you are taking advantage of the inside time by getting work done or using the rain as an excuse to relax and do absolutely nothing, rainy days are fantastic for giving you whatever you need. Use the time wisely, in whatever ways you feel to best prepare yourself for finals! Good luck!
