With the spring season upon us, there are plenty of activities to get you outside and enjoying the weather as summer approaches. Spring is a time for new beginnings, exploration, and growth. To get in the spirit, try something new near Stony Brook this spring.

1. Go for a walk around Avalon Park.

Avalon Park and Preserve in Stony Brook is a beautiful place to go on a serene hike. Observe different types of duck, geese, and the occasional swan in the pond (but don’t feed them bread; bring corn, seeds, or leafy greens). It’s a peaceful park with well-kept trails that make for a great day in spring weather.

2. Celebrate the season at Spring Appreciation Day.

Stony Brook Village Center will be holding a Spring Appreciation day to celebrate the arrival of the season. There will be music, a petting zoo, an art show, a dance performance and more on April 21, 2018 on Main Street on the Harbor in Stony Brook. For more information, see the flyer here.

3. Visit West Meadow Beach.

Enjoy views of the Smithtown Bay at West Meadow Beach in Setauket. Walk along the sand, play a fun game at the volleyball court, and check out the two-mile walking trail. Picnic in the gazebo to complete your spring afternoon on the beach.

4. Spend a day in Port Jefferson.

This town is a perfect setting for a fun spring day. Walk around the village, shop, check out the beach, and eat at one of many delicious restaurants. The Village Center in Port Jefferson will be hosting the 11thAnnual Antiques and Garden Weekend April 28-29, 2018 from 10-5, featuring quality antiques and garden items that will make you feel the spring season.

5. Discover Benner’s Old-Fashioned Family Farm.

Learn about the farm, maple tapping, and plant life, and see some animals! Join in on one of their Special Saturday Offerings, like their upcoming Backyard Chickens workshop and Milking to Cheese Dairy workshop. For more information on events, visit their website.

In addition to exploring these events near Stony Brook, take part in some general spring activities. Rejuvenate with self-care and get your motivation back to finish out the semester strong. Sit outside to eat at a café. Plant flowers or vegetables. Jump in puddles, blow bubbles, ride a bike, or draw with chalk. Let yourself grow as nature does, enjoy the weather as it gets warmer, and have fun this spring.
