How to Laugh Your Way Through the Rest of the Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Stockton chapter.

Happy National Humor Month! Sounds strange right? A whole month dedicated to a couple of laughs?

Well the joke’s on you! National Humor Month serves as a platform for public awareness on the beneficial nature of humor. We aren’t just limited to a couple of jokes on April Fool’s Day. The advantages of humor range from health related (emotional, psychological, etc.) to the ability to foster strong communications skills.

April is generally a stressful month. Whether it’s a final paper (over)due or graduation seeming light years away- the feeling of drowning in a sea full of exams isn’t fun. This is why it’s important to take a step back and laugh. Doing so reduces stress hormones, releases endorphins that you commonly lose at the gym (not that much but it doesn’t hurt to try) and puts you in a better mood.

Make sure you surround yourself with people or outlets whose humor you appreciate and maybe a couple of pranks or two. Also, be sure to be that for other people. Smile more, give compliments- your positivity will be received and brighten up someone else’s day.

Here’s a couple things you can do with friends to detox all of the worry away:

  • Go to the gym (painful, but we’re in this together)

  • Walk around campus

  • Frozen yogurt runs are a major key

  • Test out Snapchat filters on your friends without them knowing

  • Try cool recipes on Facebook or Pinterest

And if none of that works, suggest a sad movie to watch and disguise your actual stress induced tears; I’m sure one of your friends will be doing the same thing.

When you’re running on 4 hours of sleep and stressing over an annoying group project, there’s always room for a laugh. Being happy is essential to success because without it it’ll be hard to see the purpose in anything that you are doing and won’t motivate you to work hard.

Things are probably overwhelming now but we’re a couple weeks away from letting our hair down and enjoying the beauty of free time in summer.
