Alright so let’s start with the back story first. Before I even became a student at SVC I was enthralled with the sheer number of clubs on campus and couldn’t wait to be a part of so many of them. However, going through that long list of clubs, I never found a crafty club. Sure, there was Art club, but to me there’s a difference between being artistic and being creative. Take myself for example, I find myself to be very creative, but definitely not artistic. Freshman year rolls around and I share this idea with my roommate who also has a knack for craftiness. She loved the idea, but as freshman we felt that we couldn’t pull it off.

Fast forward to end sophomore year, different roommate, and we’re on our way to the Mr. SVC contest. Aislynn and I take our seats in the front row and begin talking about wanting a craft club of sorts. In that very peculiar moment, the idea for the club was created. We immediately started brainstorming names, figuring out what we would do in the club, and deciding on an advisor. At the same time, we both thought of our theology professor freshman year Dr. Petrany, who shared our love of creativity and Pinterest at the beginning of her classes. Before the start of Mr. SVC, we emailed Dr. Petrany inquiring her thoughts on the idea of our club. She almost immediately responded saying she would love to be the advisor and that she was excited about the ideology behind the club.

Fast forward with me one more time to the beginning of my junior year here at SVC. Aislynn and I received an email that our club was official and had been approved. We were both ecstatic over the news. We prepared for club fair and were able to recruit about 70 people for our club! We were both amazed that our club’s goal resonated with so many people. At Creativity Corner, we strive to create a stress relieving and judgement free zone for any and all students on campus to participate in group tutorials or work on individual projects. Even though we’ve only had one meeting thus far and just had our first project last night, I have high hopes for our club and an everlasting excitement about it.
