4 Easy Ways to Get Exercise Throughout the Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Vincent chapter.

1. Take the Stairs: I know that it’s very tempting to want to take the elevator especially early in the morning when you’re half asleep or after eating a big meal, but the stairs are such a great way to get some exercise throughout the day. Another way that this will help is if you have you heavy backpack on you because it’ll add weight and put up resistance.

2. Play a Sport with your Friends: Getting exercise is always better when you’re having fun with your friends. It doesn’t even have to be at the gym! Just grab a volleyball or basketball and play a quick pickup game for a great cardio boost and arm workout. You’ll feel a lot better physically and have a great time with your friends as well.

3. Do Exercises During Breaks: I know from firsthand experience that it’s very tempting to go on your phone while you’re taking a break from homework or studying. However, it’s more rewarding to squeeze in maybe ten push-ups or thirty squats, and exercise is proven to improve focus, which is so necessary while doing school work.

4. If the Gym is Intimidating: The gym is a place where people can easily get intimidated because they may not know what to do exactly or there are just a lot of people and the social anxiety kicks in. If this applies to you, you can easily work out in your room! Put a couple books and notebooks/binders in your backpack and use it as a weight to do lunges or even overhead presses with.

I hope that this helps you wherever you are on your fitness journey.

Happy exercising and HCXO,

Marisa
