Ole Entertainment: 5 Ways to Enjoy Spring on the Hill

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hey Oles! I know I’m not the only one loving this recent heat wave – seemingly overnight the winter coats and boots were shed and the longboards and bro tanks were brought out of storage. Everybody says that it won’t last and a second winter is on its way (they’re probably right – it is Minnesota, after all), but that’s all the more reason we should get outside and milk it for all that it’s worth. Here are a few ideas for activities to make the most of the beautiful weather!

Rent a bike and explore the Carleton Arb.

We may be rivals, but it is worth crossing the river to check out the beautiful trails available in the Arb. With both woodland and prairie habitats and abundant wildlife, there is plenty to see!

Get your favorite drink from the Cage – iced!

Welcome the warm weather by getting the iced version of your favorite drink – the chill will help wake you up, and is extra refreshing while relaxing on a bench outside of Buntrock between classes.

Toss around a frisbee on Mellby lawn.

Nothing says spring like gathering a group of friends and playing a game outdoors. If you don’t have a frisbee of your own, head down to the STORP office in Skoglund and rent one out for the afternoon.

Take a walk into town and look for hidden treasures at Clothes Closet or Used-A-Bit.

Have a few extra bucks laying around? Take a stroll into downtown and see what bargains you can find at the various Northfield thrift stores. You might just find the next spring trend!

Break out your favorite pair of sandals.

Of course, one of the best parts about the warm weather is being able to change up your wardrobe and shed some layers. Put away those snow boots for now and let your toes breathe in some sandals. Don’t pack up all of your winter clothes, though – we do still live in Minnesota!
