Ole Entertainment: 5 Albums You Should Be Listening To Right Now

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St Olaf chapter.

Hey Oles! Looking for some new study music? How about some fresh tracks to add to your workout playlist? These artists all have recent album releases that the critics are raving about and will liven up any music-lover’s collection. Go ahead and let these songs power you through the end of the semester!

Cherry Bomb – Tyler, The Creator

The Odd Future rapper released his most recent album to streaming services this past Sunday, with the physical copy set for release on April 28. Although it doesn’t feature quite as many guests as his previous albums, he made sure that the few names he collaborated with were big ones – keep your ears pricked for verses from Kanye West, Schoolboy Q and Lil Wayne.

Kids In Love – The Mowgli’s

The Mowgli’s Southern California roots are evident in their sophomore LP, with a collection of upbeat pop/rock tunes that you’ll find yourself humming throughout the day. Check out “I’m Good” for an instant mood-booster!

To Pimp A Butterfly – Kendrick Lamar

Lamar fearlessly tackles difficult subjects such as race, class, the effects of celebrity and self-love in To Pimp A Butterfly, which was met with critical acclaim. With a heavy jazz and spoken-word influence, some critics have already referred to this album as a “hip-hop masterpiece.”

Kintsugi – Death Cab For Cutie

It’s been a rough couple of years for the members of Death Cab, but luckily for us they were able to channel their emotions into a painfully pure set of tracks that document the collapse of lead singer Ben Gibbard’s marriage to Zooey Deschanel.

Strangers to Ourselves – Modest Mouse

After an eight year break following their last album, people had high expectations for Modest Mouse’s return to the music scene. They were not disappointed. It is clear that the band’s time off gave them a chance to experiment with their sound and evolve as a group, and Strangers to Ourselves is a reflection of that.
