November is when school/life/work/etc. picks up for everyone (finals aren’t that far off!). Read more to find out seven ways to manage your stress! Â
1. Talk about it.Â
Instead of holding in all of your stress and emotions, try confiding in friends to make it better. If that doesn’t work, go and have fun to forget about it! That’s what friends are for- never feel like you’re bothering them because they most likely want to help.
2. Focus on YOU.Â
Although friends and family are great for moral support and venting sessions, make sure to value your alone time just as much. Yes, it is important to be conscious of others, but make sure you are doing things to benefit yourself every single day. You need tending to just as much as others do. Whether its going to get coffee, taking a walk or listening to your favorite playlist, save some time for yourself each day. It’ll clear your head and help you relax! Â
3. Stay active.Â
This does not require spending hours upon hours in the gym, but constantly sitting in front of your computer or books will only increase your stress levels. Go on a walk, dance, take a quick jog, anything to get your heart rate going and to get your mind off of how busy you are!
4. Change your surroundings daily and as often as you can.Â
It is pretty hard to feel productive if you’re sitting in the same spot in the library for five hours every single day. Doing homework in new places around new people will make it seem less painful and repetitive. Also, taking breaks to stretch, walk around or find a new place to work is very helpful.
5. Sleep.Â
I know it seems impossible, but maintaining a consistent sleep pattern works wonders. Sometimes all-nighters are necessary, but try to avoid doing this every night. Sleep is just as vital to your health and well-being as diet and exercise, so try to fit sleeping into your schedule.
6. Speaking of diet and exercise, avoid stress-eating and snacking.Â
Even though it is easiest to grab an unhealthy snack on-the-go, it will slow down your mind and body. When you’re actually taking a break from your crazy life, try to make better choices so you have more energy during the day. You’ll definitely feel happier and more alert by doing so.
7. Look at the big picture.Â
Although you are busy now, and it may seem like you will never overcome the projects, finals and lack of sleep, it will all be okay. Nothing can get you down more than tunnel vision. Get out of the tunnel and be thankful for all of the great things in your life instead of focusing too much on your hectic schedule.Â
