What to Do as a College Student in NYC: Queens Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at St. John's chapter.

Queens is one of the most underrated boroughs for entertainment, food, and sights of the city. Queens is the largest and most diverse of the New York City boroughs, and holds many opportunities for college students to take advantage of.

Best Restaurants in Queens:

  1. Pye Noodle Boat in Astoria–They have some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had!
  2. Umi Sushi on Union Turnpike–They are right across the street from campus, and they have fairly cheap, but delicious rolls.
  3. Numero 28 in Forest Hills–They have Cheap personal pies and amazing margarita pizza.

The Best Entertainment:

  1. Kew Gardens Cinemas in Kew Gardens–This is close to campus by subway and a great place to see the newest films.
  2. Flushing Meadows Corona Park–This is the largest park in Queens with quick access to the botanical gardens, the Queens museum, and the New York Hall of Science.
  3. Citi Field–This is where you can go to see a Mets game and enjoy all of the concessions that are offered.

Must See Museums:

  1. Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria–This is a great place for movie fans to explore the technology and history of their favorite films.
  2. MoMa PS1 in Long Island City–This is a smaller, but still interesting sector of the MoMa in Manhattan.
  3. The Queens Museum in Flushing Meadows–This contains historical exhibitions behind the beginnings of New York City.

For college students, always check to see if your student ID will get you a discount!

There are so many more places to see and foods to try beyond this list, but this is a good place to start! Happy exploring!
