When it comes to studying, it’s important to switch up the environment every now and then. Whether you need a quiet space, a semi-social work space or even a loud and chaotic backdrop to keep you awake, Queens has a spot for every type of student. We all have a different vibe, aesthetic and levels of noise, so here’s a list of some of the places I’ve personally tried. If one seems to fit your liking, give it a visit before finals start!
1. COFFEE PRO (23-33 Astoria Blvd, Long Island City)
“Coffee Pro” is quite accessible by bus and train and very close to Manhattan. It’s not too packed and the music is the perfect volume, not too quiet but also not too loud. They have a wide variety of coffees and teas to choose from, but the highlight is the fresh, in house cookies baked by the wonder, Mohammed. They are TO DIE FOR! There is also a very niche thing to try called “The Dubai Cheese Bomb” but they incorporate Dubai chocolate into many desserts and the prices are super affordable ranging from ($1-10) per person. I stayed the entire day and was able to focus on all of my work. 10/10 experience, vibes and studying spot!
Why you might like it:
It’s cozy, casual and great for long study sessions without feeling rushed. Plus, the food is cheap and delicious making it a win for any student budget.
2. BEE CAFE (60-11 39th Ave, Woodside, NY 11377)
If you’re looking for peace, warmth and people who are locked in doing their own thing, which is automatically motivating, this is the place for you. It has both indoor and outdoor seating, making it perfect for days when you want fresh air or a change in scenery. Their menu includes coffee, bubble tea, sandwiches and small bites, so you’ll never feel like you have to relocate when you get hungry. What I loved most was the crowd: students, freelancers and quiet regulars. You sit down and just immediately feel like you’re supposed to be productive.
Why you might like it:
If you love a calm, cozy vibe where everyone around you is also grinding, Bee Cafe is your place. It feels safe, comfy and easy to delve in to focus.
3. Oasis Café (196-30 Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY 11358) (multiple locations)
This stylish and late night option may be for you if you need to stay awake. Oasis Café stays open until midnight on weekdays and until 1 a.m. on weekends, making it a reliable late night option. Located in downtown Flushing, the area stays active and well lit even late at night. Inside, the café is large and full of comfy seating. This is not the quietest option, you’ll hear loud conversations and music, but the energy becomes a background noise that keeps you awake and motivated. Their menu consists of coffee, teas, snacks and full desserts for a quick refuel.
Why you might like it:
If you study better at night and need a little movement and energy around you, this is an ideal option. It’s great for night owls, group sessions or last minute assignment emergencies.
