With just a few weeks left until Halloween, it’s time to savor the beautiful weather that fall brings and cozy up with some fall movies that bring back fuzzy feelings of nostalgia!

  1. Coraline

This dark fantasy film tells the creepy story of a girl who finds herself in a parallel universe ridden with dark secrets. Coraline has to act with bravery to find her way back to her family and normal life, as she ventures through this alternate world. With Halloween coming up, this spooky, yet cute movie will definitely help you get in the spirit of autumn.

  1. When Harry Met Sally

This popular rom-com starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal from 1989 tells the tale of Harry and Sally—who first met in ‘77, when they were arguing about whether people of different genders could remain platonic friends. They run into each other a few times throughout their life until 10 years later when they meet again in a bookstore, (the perfect setting for that autumn feeling)—and begin their attempt to have a strictly platonic friendship. This beautiful and lifting film is heartfelt and may even make you shed a few tears.

  1. Twilight

Starring Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart, Twilight is a movie series that can be appreciated year-round and brings back those extra feelings of nostalgia from 2008 when it first hit theaters—making it a perfect movie to watch this fall. The saga is now available on Netflix, making it a convenient series to wind down to and enjoy amidst this busy fall semester!

  1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

One of my all-time favorite movies, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, stars Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller. This coming of age film tells the story of a boy who struggled with mental health issues his whole life, has experienced trauma, and is now venturing through high school while going through all of this. At first, he has trouble making friends and finding where he belongs, but he ends up going through different experiences and grows as a person. He also finds self-confidence and discovers a newfound love for friendship, and for life in general.

  1. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

The third movie from the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, gives off true autumn like vibes with the beautiful shots of Scotland. From the huge pumpkins that accompany Buckbeak, to the huge Whomping Willow, you can almost feel the chilly air throughout the movie. Sirius’ appearance (of course!) also makes the movie a fan favorite.

  1. The Wizard of Oz

This oldie is always great to rewatch—and the saturated color scheme plus the fantastical elements of the setting, makes it perfect for the fall. The lovely soundtrack makes this childhood classic even more enjoyable to enjoy with family or friends.

  1. Matilda

Another personal favorite of mine, Matilda, is a ‘96 classic that emphasizes kindness through the story of a little girl who is gifted with the power of telekinesis. With the help of her teacher, Miss Honey, she learns how to cleverly protect herself from her evil school principal, Miss Trunchbull, and her cruel parents. The last scene, which depicts Matilda and Miss Honey living together happily with the song, “Send Me On Your Way”, by Rusted Root playing in the background, brings about cozy feelings perfect to snuggle up to this fall.

  1. Gran Torino

Although not as comforting as some of the other heartfelt movies on this list, this drama starring Academy Award winner, Clint Eastwood, is eye-opening and stirs powerful emotions. Taking place in 1972 Highland, Michigan, this old school movie amplifies the voices of Asian Americans and shows the importance of true friendship.
