Columbia Checklist: Fun Fitness Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at South Carolina chapter.

Before you say “I don’t like exercising” or “I am perfectly content with my treadmill workout,” there are two things you need to know: there are tons of ways to work out, so there truly is something fun for everyone. Plus, switching up your daily routine can help you work your muscles in different ways. So in order to make your workouts a little more bearable, we came up with a list of activities to do in Columbia that are sure to get your muscles working!

1. Adventure Carolina

Adventure Carolina lets you rent kayaks, canoes, and tubes to be used on the Congaree and Saluda Rivers. They also carry gear to purchase for backpacking, rock climbing, camping, and biking. Adventure Carolina offers trips for all skill levels, starting at just $15 per person.

2. Plex HiWire Family Fun & Sports Center

With two locations in Columbia, HiWire offers endless hours of fun! From a trampoline park to an ice skating rink, they have it all. Reservations can be made on the HiWire website, and tickets start at only $8. Embrace your inner child and check this place out!

3. Barre3

You might remember Barre3 owner Lauren Truslow from our In Her Shoes event this past spring or you might recognize this picture after our staff tried out the class! Barre3 is no joke and is sure to give you a workout like you’ve never experienced before. They are currently located on Rosewood Drive near the Publix shopping center and will soon be opening a new location in Irmo.

4. Riverbanks Zoo and Garden

You might not think of a trip to the zoo as a “fitness activity,” but then you have probably never hiked the hill from the zoo to the botanical gardens. The Riverbanks Zoo and Garden keeps you on your feet all day as you walk between animal exhibits. Adult general admission is $13.95.

5. Triggertyme Paintball

After a day of paintball, you are sure to be sore. Paintball includes a lot of running and strategic planning to defeat the other team. All the players hike from the compound to the playing area, and games are played without boundaries. Paintball has half as many injuries as bowling and a fifth as many as golf, so there is no need to be worried! A group of 5 or more can play at Triggertyme for $25 per person.

6. Hiking

Columbia also offers plenty of beautiful hiking trails! For a complete list, check out our last article in the Columbia Checklist series.
