Bobbie Green Dameron’s Start-up Organizations Address the Need for Pre-Crisis Care Through Music and Mentorship.

Bobbie Green Dameron often sports a playful hat, colorful earrings, and an acoustic guitar when she performs her original songs that detail the most vulnerable parts of her past and present. With a cadence reminiscent of Stevie Nicks and a comedic twist—It is impossible to forget Dameron’s lyrics, attitude, and talent. However, none of those things alone encapsulate what Dameron hopes her audience will remember about her after each set. Dameron is the founder of a start-up called Call the Moms and Dads and the Stay in Touch (SIT) Foundation.

“Call the Moms and Dads is a listening service that provides support through human connection and giving people someone to talk to when they feel alone.” Dameron said.

The SIT Foundation’s mission is to support this initiative by ensuring that access to their resources remains free and to organize in-person, art-related events for the community. These events are intended to offer a safe space for those who might otherwise feel isolated and to raise awareness of mental health-related issues. Dameron’s sister organizations are not intended to act as crisis intervention platforms but rather as pre-crisis proactive measures to help situations before they escalate.

“ I started these organizations because I personally understand the power of mentorship and human connection, having experienced the impact of caring figures throughout my life, especially as a former foster child,” Dameron said. “I lost a couple of friends to suicide in 2023 and it made me realize we need to change how we deal with access to stress management by developing pre-crisis initiatives.”

Call the Moms and Dads and the SIT Foundation have gained a significant amount of traction this year thanks to media coverage and new partnerships with mental health professionals. For 3 semesters Dameron’s organizations have been sponsored by Capstone at the University of South Carolina’s IT department for the development of call center technology.

The glue that holds Dameron’s mission together is music. Often collaborating with local bands and storytelling through her songwriting, music is deeply tied to the foundation of her organizations.

“Through lyrics, we can say things we might struggle to express in everyday conversation. It has helped me find my voice and work through my own mental health as a songwriter,” Dameron said. “Even if someone isn’t a songwriter, music gives them a way to connect with emotions, experiences, and truths that might feel impossible to put into words.”

Dameron believes, “[Music] bridges the gap between silence and understanding.” and is planning to launch more benefit concerts in the fall of 2025 as well as a 2-day workshop that will offer children the ability to explore and practice songwriting in March. The full launch of the pre-crisis call center application will launch in May of 2025.
