As a woman in 2022, I say we ditch the whole “I’m not good enough to live up to societal expectations of me” and start living by words that show how much we are worth. Women of all sizes, races, ethnicities, and every other personal or social identity we hold are so often forced into boxes of what or who we should be. It’s time to say “STOP!” to all the noise and negativity, and start lifting ourselves up with positive and kind words.

The below affirmations may be phrases you have heard before, but may also be something you need to be reminded of. As you read through them, pick the one that suits your current needs the best, or all of them, and repeat it to yourself each and every day. An affirmation can only take effect when it is being used repetitively on an open mind.

You are Enough

For the women who never believe they are enough, this affirmation is for you. In her Instagram bio, Broadway star and ice skating superstar Sierra Boggess writes, “You are enough, you are so enough, it’s unbelievable how enough you are.”

Going through your daily life, it can be so easy to let yourself be weighed down by responsibilities, future goals, unending stress, and most of all, the belief that you aren’t enough for yourself or those around you. These thoughts do more than just weigh us down, though; They can force us to drown. Sometimes, when you are being dragged down by the thought of whether or not you deserve to be where you are in life, it’s important to be able to tell yourself just how enough you are. So, the next time you find yourself thinking this way, think of Sierra Boggess and repeat to yourself this beautiful affirmation.

You are Brave

All people, but women especially, become afraid when presented with opportunities that feel out of our reach. Going into an interview for a job that was once predominantly male, or still is, is intimidating. Beginning a new opportunity or starting your new classes can be terrifying. For many people, having the courage to get out of bed every day and go about our daily lives is a difficult, daunting, and scary task.

When approaching something that you find daunting in this way, or just feel like you cannot accomplish a particular hurdle in your day, repeat to yourself, “I am brave and I can do anything I set my mind to.” In a particularly scary situation, it can even help to just tell yourself “I am brave” on repeat.

These words may come off as common sense, or “too basic,” but any phrase can be an affirmation so long as it holds meaning to the user. I can also promise that repeating these kinds of phrases to yourself will have a deep inward impact on your sense of self when allowed to penetrate your negative thoughts.

I am Woman, Hear me Roar

As you may have heard from her hit song “I Am Woman” on TikTok or the radio, Emmy Meli certainly has some positive things to say for the women of our generation. When you are feeling the burdens of being a woman in 2022, or any time, I would encourage you to sing or say to yourself any line from the chorus of this undeniable bop:

“I am woman, I am fearless

I am sexy, I’m devine

I’m unbeatable, I’m creative

Honey, you can get in line.”

This song truly goes to show that as a woman, we have so many things to be proud of about ourselves. We are strong and beautiful on the inside and out, and we deserve to speak up and be loud about just how proud we are to be here. So ladies, go out there and thrive during our glorious Women’s History Month!
