Bullet Journaling: How it Changed my Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sonoma chapter.

Imagine one journal, where you can write down everything:

  • Grocery list

  • Gift ideas

  • Drawings

  • Habits

  • Mood Tracker

  • Sleep

  • Workout schedule

  • Study Habits

This past September, my roommate introduced me to the magic of bullet journaling. It was created by Ryder Carroll, a designer based in New York. According to his own words, it is a way “to help you track the past, organize the present, and plan for the future.”

It’s a journal that brings together creativity and productivity. For the past three months, I have been using this method to manage and track my life day by day. It keeps me accountable, helps me reflect and be productive all at the same time. In one sense, it is a homemade planner, although with much more!

So, “WHERE DO I BEGIN?”

There are websites such as https://bulletjournal.com that give you ideas on how to begin a traditional bullet journal focused more around note-taking and symbols however, it is a useful website to get a the general idea. However, it comes down your rules. There are no set guidelines to how you must create your bullet journal, it unique and original just like you!

“WHERE CAN I FIND INSPO?”

I use https://www.pinterest.com for inspiration of topics I want to follow or track for the month and what pages I want to be available to me during that month. There are also youtubers who take a creative, fun approach to bullet journaling!

…DON’T COMPARE!

You are going to come across bullet journals on the internet that looks near perfection. Just remember these people did not get there on the first try. Know that you are going to improve each month and find something new that works for you, it is all about experimenting and practice! Be good to yourself, this should be fun, not a competition!

Bullet journaling is a perfect way to de-stress, get inspired and let the thoughts flow freely. It keeps me on track with daily tasks, keeps me accountable for my actions and always improving myself daily, however small it may be!
