Girl’s Night on a Budget

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sonoma chapter.

Being in college means being on a budget, so when your girls want to have a fun night in, you need to know how to have a girl’s night on a budget. Here are a few ideas to make your next girl’s night affordable.

2-Buck Chuck!

If you’re twenty-one and staying in with your girls, pick up some $2.50 wine. Charles Shaw is the best wine for an occasion like this because it’s so cheap, and it tastes yummy too. You can find it at your local Trader Joe’s.

Turn Your Room into a Spa

Set up a mani-pedi station in your room. Get a tub or bowl to put warm water in and add sea and epsom salts for your pedicures. Get cute nail colors from the dollar store and paint away. Here are a few ideas on how to take a spa night with your girls to the next level:

Rejuvenating Foot Soak: Boil water and pour into a bowl. Allow to cool and add ½ cup epsom salt and 3 Tbs of sea salt to the water. Pick some roses or other flower petals from outside and add to your foot soak. Add a few drops of essential oils if you already have some. Lavender oil will help calm and soothe, while peppermint oil will help revitalize and energize. If you’re going for a super silky feel add 1 Tbs of coconut oil tol leave your heels feeling baby smooth.

Face Masks

Face masks are so much fun and also extremely beneficial. You can get creative with making masks from things you have in your kitchen. Got an old brown banana? Face mask. Have an old mushy avocado? Face mask. Got some eggs, oatmeal, honey, or yogurt in your kitchen? Face masks. All of these ingredients are good for your face. Smoother, healthier skin is just in your kitchen.

Tightening and Toning Skin: Mix 1 egg white, 1 tsp. fresh lemon juice, and ½ tsp of honey until it becomes frothy. Wash your face with warm water to open pores.  Use your fingers to rub the mixture over your face. Let the mask sit until it dries, then wash it off with warm water. This mask is great for oily skin because it helps to shrink large pores and reduces extra sebum. The lemon will help fight acne and the honey with help moisturize!

Rejuvenate, Nourish, and Exfoliate: Mix together equal parts plain unsweetened probiotic yogurt, honey, and oats. Suggested amount is 1 tsp of each. Apply a thick coat to your face and let sit for fifteen minutes, then wash off with warm water. Use olive oil or coconut oil on your face after for extra moisture. To brighten your skin, substitute the oats for two strawberries.

Moisturize Rough, Dry, Winter Skin:  mix together 1 tsp. yogurt, 1 tsp. honey, and ¼ avocado. Mash and mix together to place a thick coat over your face. Let sit for fifteen minutes, then wash off with warm water. Splash your face with cold water after to close your pores back up. This mask will nourish and moisturize dry, flaky skin. It is especially great for the winter.

Wrinkle and Acne Free for sensitive skin: Mash and mix together 1 tbs. ground oatmeal, ½ ripe banana, and 1 tsp. milk. Mash and mix until mask is smooth and place on your face for ten fifteen minutes, then wash off with warm water. This mask is great for healing blemishes and smoothing out wrinkles.

Movie Time!

Once your mani-pedi is done and your face mask is on, put on a classic chick flick or an old black and white movie. No girl’s night is complete without an old movie to watch. Try to match the movie with the season or the theme or your friends. Pop some popcorn and you’re ready to go. Here are some classics that we love: Mean Girls, The Holiday, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, To Catch a Thief, The Notebook, Dirty Dancing, and Runaway Bride.
