An important aspect to self care is giving yourself what you need, and sometimes it’s sex!!  No shame here ladies, we’ve all been there.  Hundreds of articles have been written, just discussing this topic itself.  Sex is good for you!

Here are a few ways sex can benefit women:

It’s a stress reliever

This one might speak for itself.  Sex releases endorphins and elevates your mood, and that’s just science.

It’s cardio!

During sex, you can burn up to 150 calories per half hour! Depending in how hard you work ;)

Lowers blood pressure

One landmark study done by CEO and medical director of Amai Wellness, Joseph J. Pinzone, MD., found that sexual intercourse specifically (not including masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure, which is the first number on a blood pressure test.

Lessens Pain

WebMD recommends before you reach for an aspirin, try for an orgasm! “Orgasm can block pain,” according to Barry R. Komisaruk, PhD, a distinguished service professor at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. It releases a hormone that helps raise your pain threshold.

It Can Improve Your Mental Health

The quickest way to boost your mood, fight depression and beat anxiety? Patricia Tan, MD, says the answer is simple: sex.
