It’s official, we’ve been home for 2 weeks.  As great as it has been to have some relaxation time, I’m sure we all have had a few moments of bordem. With a little over 2 weeks left, there is still tons of free time! For that, I came up with a winter break bucket list. Even though Christmas has technically ended, there’s not reason to not keep the season going while you are home. Here are some ideas to occupy your time and continue enjoying the seaon!

1. Bake cookies

Nothing tastes as good as those pretty Christmas cookies with the bright colored frosting. Making them from scratch is even better. Catch up with friends from home and make a ton!! You can always give extra out to family members, neighbors, or anyone else! Or, plan a cookie swap! Set a date and bake your favorite type of cookie. If all your friends do this, you can get together, pick different kinds of cookies, and enjoy! With hot chocolate and Elf playing, you have the perfect Saturday (or any day!).

2. Volunteer

I know something I really love about SMC is all its volunteer opportunities. I really hope to volunteer back home during winter break as well. Check online for opportunities near you! This could be in a soup kitchen, at an animal shelter, at a school, or anywhere else! The holiday season really is based in giving. I’m hoping (and you should too) to give back a little this year!

3.  Go ice skating

I used to go when I was little, but never had the time as I got older. Although I was never very good, it’s never too late to learn!

4.  Get together with friends and enjoy a snow day

Snow days were my favorite when I was little. I would go out with other kids in my neighborhood and relish in the day off. There’s so many things that, with a month off, we have time to appreciate. Build a snowman, or a whole snow family. Have a snowball fight. Make a snow fort. Then come in and warm up with hot chocolate.

5.  Watch holiday movies with family

I secretly love those cheesy Christmas movies on Hallmark. Luckily, so does my mom! I really want to enjoy more of those with her, since it’s something we have bonded over since I was little.

No matter what might be on your winter break bucket list, just enjoy the time off! Life is so chaotic that it is nice to sit back and enjoy it for a moment. Spring semester will be here before we know it. Treat yourself for a great semester and killing those finals! See you in 2 weeks, Knights!
