It is so easy to want to have a cute, calm, Pinterest-type morning routine. However, it can be much harder to stick to, especially with self-deprivation and stress this late in the semester. That said, personally, completing a morning routine can completely alter the mood and course of my day. The times I have fallen back asleep or avoided completing it, I always have more collective stress, anxiety, and brain fog throughout the day. However, it is important to keep in mind that not every routine will fit you or make you feel good, it’s all about incorporating things that will both benefit your morning and fit with who you are. With that, here are some tips and tricks for curating your own morning routine that you can stick to.

Aim to Sleep Well
One of the hardest parts of the morning can be actually getting out of bed, and if you aren’t well-rested, this feat is even more difficult. Honestly, during certain parts of the semester, this isn’t always entirely doable or realistic. However, when given the opportunity, it’s better not to waste the time you do have doom-scrolling. Even when you can’t get a full eight hours of sleep, make your best effort to prioritize it when possible.

Make It Enjoyable for You
While there are many benefits to a morning routine, I would argue that a lot of them are obsolete if you don’t at least somewhat enjoy doing it. Incorporate something that feels good for you, whether that means making time in your morning to have a good coffee and breakfast or taking extra time to do your skincare or makeup. You should do what feels good for you, as well as what is practical for your day.

Adjust Over Time
Our schedules rarely stay the same, especially with classes changing every semester. Along with this, your interests, likes and dislikes, and priorities will also shift throughout the years. Do not force yourself to adhere to a routine that feels like an overhaul; adjust it to where you are at and what your changing needs and interests are.
