Sometimes life can feel mundane. Between school, work, and everyday responsibilities, it can be easy to fall into a routine and forget to appreciate the little things. Here are some tips and tricks I have tried to bring a little more joy into my routine.

Morning Reflection

The morning is one of the most important parts of the day because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. Each day I like to start by telling myself that today is going to be a good day. The more times I say this, the more I internalize it. I also like to start the day of by jotting down three things I am grateful for. This is a simple way to remind myself of all the good things in life.

motivation

Having something to look forward to can make even the most ordinary day feel more exciting. It doesn’t have to be anything big. It could be your morning coffee, plans with a friend, or watching your favorite show after class. Having something to anticipate gives you something to get excited about and helps get through the day.

Productivity

Doing something productive each day can give you a sense of purpose or accomplishment. This can be as simple as making your bed, cleaning your room, or going for a walk. Doing something productive always makes me feel better and there is something satisfying about accomplishing even the smallest task.

Comparison

It can be easy to look at other people’s lives and feel like you are falling behind. Comparison can take away from the happiness that you already have. Everyone is on their own path; just because someone is doing something different does not mean you are falling behind. I find that when I stop comparing myself to others, it improves my day.
