The Process of Applying to Internships

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

You’re sitting at the dinner table with your family during break and a family member asks the dreaded question, “what are your plans for the summer?” Suddenly it feels like the end of the world as you know it. As most of us know, the process of searching for and landing an internship is long, frustrating, and feels like a sixth class! Summer is only a few months away and it’s time to jump feet first into the internship process!

1. When your family first asks if you’ve found a summer internship yet, and you realize its time to start the process

2. When you don’t even know what you want to do with your life

3. Realizing how much competition you have

May the odds be ever in your favor. Its a dog-eat-dog world out there.

4. Tweaking your resume and writing a different cover letter for each position you apply for

A standard resume and cover letter doesn’t cut it anymore. You need to tailor them to each company you’re applying to.

5. Finding out you landed an interview

6. When the interviewer asks you to tell them a little bit about you and suddenly you forget everything about yourself

7. Nailing the interview despite fumbling on a question or two

8. Finding out you got the job

You’re kind of shocked, honestly.

9. Showing up on the first day of your new internship

Good luck during your search for an internship, Hawks! We have faith in you!!
