The Best Fall Running Routes

With half marathons and 5-Ks coming up, it’s easy to get stuck in a running rut. Break out of your routine, grab a friend and hit these awesome paths for great workouts and amazing views of the fall foliage!

Forbidden Drive

Wissahickon Valley Park is a hidden gem that SJU students don’t take advantage of. Forbidden Drive is a 5.5-mile loop featuring gorges, covered bridges, and the perfect background noise of rushing water. When you’re finished, you can treat yourself to brunch at the Valley Green Inn! If you’re bored on the main path, there are plenty of trails that cut into the woods for a change of scenery.

Kelly drive

Although it seems obvious, students often forget to embark on a run on Kelly Drive! Consisting of an 8.4-mile paved path along Kelly Drive to Falls Bridge and back on West River Drive, this route will definitely keep you far from bored. With kids on rollerblades, bikers, and dog walkers – this route is the prime spot for people watching. Lose the headphones and get to Kelly Drive!

Haverford Loop

Harverford College, located on Lancaster Ave, has a great 2.5-mile loop on campus. Consisting of hills, turns and flat stretches you won’t get bored doing this loop two or three times, and you definitely won’t run into any SJU kids.

Ben Franklin Bridge

With great views and a free trip to New Jersey, this is the perfect 3-mile run. Giving you a great leg workout on the incline and an amazing view of the Philly skyline – be sure to run this at sunrise or sunset for the most memorable experience!

Valley Forge

Although Valley Forge is a bit of a drive, their views of historic landmarks and rolling hills make it all the worthwhile! Their 6.6-mile loop gives allows you to get your perfect run in and get your daily dose of nature.
