5 Healthy Snacks to Satisfy those Mid-Day Munchies

It’s four 3 o’clock, you’re stuck at school, and you feel the need to eat anything and everything in sight. 

We’ve all been there. 

When you spend your day running around school, going from classes to club meetings, It’s normal  to feel hungry during those awkward “in-between-meal” hours. It’s crucial to fuel your body with healthful foods to help keep you energized and motivated during your day.

 

 These simple and healthy snack options keep you going all day long.

  1. Trail Mix. 

Trail Mix is easy to find at most stores, and the nuts in trail mix are filled with the good fats that keep you full and energized. However, not all trail mixes are the same, so remember to choose wisely and steer clear of added sugars and salts. It’s also simple to make on your own! Just mix sensible servings of your favorite nuts, such as almonds cashews, and walnuts, and mix with raisins, craisins, or anything else you have lying around in your pantry….et voila!

Not only does this snack bring you right back to your childhood, but it also helps satisfy that crunch craving. Simply take a two or three celery stalks, pre-washed, and top with a thin layer of peanut butter and raisins. An easy way to pack this is by washing and cutting up the celery the night before, wrap it in a paper towel and store in a plastic bag or Tupperware container. That way you can easily bring the celery to school and top with the peanut butter and raisins when you are ready to enjoy.

  1. Popcorn

Popcorn is a great snack for on the go because it is easy to pack, full of fiber, low in calorie, and of course, delicious! Like trail mix, many popcorn brands sneak in added and unneeded ingredients, so make sure you choose wisely. However, there are many great popcorn brands available and it is easy to find at almost every store, making it the perfect snack when you are on-the-go.

  1. Carrots and Hummus

Hummus is a delicious spread that satisfies a more savory snack craving.  Hummus has many health benefits and helps to keep you satisfied and full of energy. A common way to see hummus is when it is packaged with pretzel thins or pita bread. However by packing chopped veggies, such as carrots or cucumbers, you can enjoy your hummus while also fulfilling your daily serving of vegetables ….who wouldn’t want that!?

This classic, all-time favorite, is the perfect medley of salty and sweet that will fulfill any craving. Apples are the perfect snack and are full of fiber, low in calorie, and can help keep you energized. Paired with a salty, delicious, layer of peanut butter, this is the ultimate simple and healthy snack.
