Growing up in a digital age, some pivotal moments in pop culture have been first documented  through platforms like YouTube. However, the platform has evolved quickly since then having influencer lifestyle channels amassing millions of subscribers.

So how are these channels attracting such a large following?

Influencer lifestyle channels often depict unrealistic expectations of work, relationships, financial success and more. In turn displaying dishonest portrayals of your life, it can send misleading messages to viewers.

Although there are misconceptions portrayed on the internet, there are some influencers that do not shy away from staying genuine to their audience.

Miiasaurous

Youtuber Miiasaurous, is known for her high energy and witty humor layered on top of intense social issues. The content creator has touched on questionable moments in pop culture and media today concerning body standards, racism, the wage gap, sexism and more. I always look forward to watching new projects Mia has in store, whether its videos on Asian-fishing or even calling out other influencer’s incongruencies.

Kien Choi

No one does self-love content like Kien Choi. Her sweet and welcoming persona makes her viewers feel comfortable in a virtual space. Kien advocates that everyone follow a self-love journey and cater to themselves consistently. Throughout her daily vlogs Kien goes to various cafes and food markets as a one-on-one experience. Fitting into her self-love theme, she encourages viewers to take themselves on dates as she frequently does.

Sarah Baska

Sarah Baska is another example of a carefree yet opinionated influencer as well. The former Vine influencer turned YouTuber has documented many milestones, good and bad on her channel. Everything from moving across the country to breakups, this creator hasn’t shied away from holding tough conversations on her channel. Watching Sarah for years I can always say that she is authentic to herself. Her humor and ever evolving character arc is the reason why I am still subscribed so many years later.
