Bellesa: An Ethical Porn Site that Makes PornHub Look Like a Joke

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

TRIGGER WARNING: This article lightly discusses the topic of r*pe, ch*ld p****graphy, sex trafficking, and revenge p*rn

Back in 2019, PornHub reported that 32% of their visitors were women. 32% is small, so why not more?

Many women decide not to watch pornography because of the unethical practices that the adult-film industry allows, including mistreating and paying the women actresses unfairly, the unrealistic expectations of sex, and highly illegal videos being uploaded, such as revenge porn, rape, and child pornography.

The most popular porn site, PornHub, has been criticized in the past for allowing videos of non-consensual sex, revenge porn, child porn, and sex trafficking while also having an abysmal response to these situations.

In 2019, PornHub removed a verified channel from their site for being involved with sex trafficking. The channel was the 20th most popular and had been on PornHub since 2009.

In December of last year, PornHub finally decided to remove videos from unverified users. This reduced the number of videos from their site, from 13 million to 4 million.

PornHub has had its reputation of being unethical. There are numerous porn websites that make the adult-film industry extremely unethical when the truth is, it really shouldn’t be.

Forget PornHub, Let’s Talk about Bellesa. Ethical porn for women, directed by women.

At Bellesa, we believe that sexuality on the internet should depict women as they truly are- as subjects of pleasure, not objects of conquest. Bellesa is a platform on which users can access sexual content that suits their desires, share intimate and erotic stories, and engage in a community of like-minded individuals. Our ambitions reach far beyond providing women with easily accessible and true natured sexual content; we’re aiming to open a dialogue amongst our expressive community members with thought-provoking non-adult content as well. Bellesa grows and changes as its community does- that’s where you come in.

That’s Bellesa’s mission statement. Unlike other porn sites, Bellesa is refreshing and guilt-free.

They pay their actresses fairly. The actors and actresses come in all shapes, colors, and sizes. The sex isn’t aggresive, violent, or degrading. It’s intimate and pleasurable, and much more realistic than what you’d see on other porn websites.

“I found that porn is often centered around male pleasure and women are objectified,”  said Kat Limqueco, an incoming UC Berkeley student.

Another lady college student said that she used to watch porn but stopped because of how misogynistic and toxic the industry is.

They’re both completely right! Almost all of porn is made for the male gaze which normalizes that sex is for men and that women are the tools needed for their pleasure.

However, on Bellesa, you can find porn where the woman is getting an equal amount of pleasure from the man. Finally, something comfy, steamy, and actually enjoyable.

A big red flag for women who watch porn was that porn sites often use taboo scenarios, such as incest, “step-siblings,” and “barely legal.” This made a lot of the lady users uncomfortable.

“I dislike how they normalize incest,” said one Southern California user.

“There are also so many films that are based on step-families… teen this, teen that, and so [forth],” said Jam, an East Bay college student. “it pushes the stigma that barely legal teens are seen as a big kink, which is very alarming.”

Unlike other porn sites, the categories on Bellesa are listed as “sensual,” “passionate,” and “story” which includes actual storylines instead of profane scenarios that are usually seen on other porn sites.

Not only does Bellesa have porn videos, but they also have erotica and an adult toy shop.

If this site wasn’t already so sweet, this will be the cherry on top. Bellesa even has a sex ed category containing videos and articles that promote sexual health and female sexuality!

While a few of their content may be free, Bellesa has a paid subscription called Bellesa+, which the company itself says is the “Netflix of porn.” The subscription contains interactive sex ed, 4k streaming, and much more.

If you’re sitting there thinking, “Aw that sucks! You gotta pay for porn?” It’s just like any other service. Paying for porn means that you are paying for better and ethical porn, just like how you would pay for food and service at a restaurant.

Make your switch or try out Bellesa today! For guilt-free, ethical, and just plain better porn.
