With Kamala Harris becoming Vice President, we are witnessing a monumental moment for women of South Asian descent. There have been so many strong South Asian women trailblazing in their respective fields both before and after Harris. Here are five powerful women of South Asian descent who are breaking barriers, and paving a path for women to come.

1. Radhi Devlukia-Shetty

Radhi Devlukia-Shetty is a conscious living advocate and strives to show people how they can live happier, healthier lives. Her Instagram page is filled with vegan recipes, meditation tips and self-care ideas. Her recipes often take a page from her British-Indian roots, with her content including cooking tutorials on how to make “Paneer Tikka Wraps” and “Creamy Red Lentil Dal with Curried Cauliflower”. Devlukia-Shetty will no doubt brighten your day with her infectious energy and innovative conscious living tips.

2. Deepica Mutyala

If you have been looking for sustainable makeup and skincare made for brown women, Deepica Mutyala’s cosmetic brand Live Tinted may just be your new favorite. Mutyala had spent years striving to create a skincare brand that was truly inclusive to all skin tones. She dedicated herself to her entrepreneurial passion and now the brand has been featured as Allure’s Best of Beauty for 2020. With a continued passion to ensure that young brown girls continue to be represented in the best way possible, Mutyala is changing the skincare industry one hue stick at a time.

3. Nabela Noor

Nabela Noor is an entrepreneur, Youtuber, and influencer. Noor’s vulnerability is one of the reasons why she has almost two million followers on Instagram. Through her sharing information about Bangladeshi garment workers, advocating for brown girl representation and encouraging her young fans to focus on self-love and wellness, it is obvious that Noor is a beautiful spirit. She continues to meet every challenge with a positive attitude which is truly inspiring for young innovators.

4. Lisa Mattan

Lisa Mattan is the founder and creator of a natural skincare brand, Sahajan. What makes this brand incredibly unique is Mattan’s decision to incorporate the ancient South Asian practice of Ayurveda into the products. Ayurvedic wellness uses plant-based ingredients and emphasizes a mind-body balance. By combining her Indian roots with her experience in pharmaceuticals, Mattan has created a skincare brand like no other.

5. Seerat Saini

Seerat Saini is a South Asian blogger, an employee at Facebook and runs a joint Instagram account called @browngirlmemes. From fashion to wellness, Saini continues to redefine the definition of beauty while encouraging other young, brown girls to embrace their heritage. Coming from a Punjabi background, she continues to pay homage to all of the different ways her culture has influenced her.
