Her Campus Couple’s Gift Guide: Holiday Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

With the holiday season in full swing, it’s time to start thinking about what you’re going to get your significant other for Christmas. Trying to find the perfect gift is not always easy, especially if you have a limited budget or have been in a relationship for a while.

First, let’s start with the classics. If you haven’t been together for that long, then it’s time to get your beau a watch or a wallet. For her, get your amazing girlfriend some jewelry or perfume. You can’t go wrong with these must-have items.

But, if these are too cliché or if you’ve already done these for, say, Valentine’s Day or a birthday, then there are also alternatives. The two of you lovebirds could use the money that you would have spent on each other’s gifts to organize a day out or a weekend trip. Get an Airbnb in the city, or go to AC for the weekend. Invest in quality time together rather than an animate object.

However, most of us college students are on a budget. So just plan a really fancy date that is out of the norm. Get all dressed up, go to the symphony, or a 5-star restaurant. Sometimes just a little fun and something out of the normal routine is enough of a present.

If you want to play it safe, buy your honey a collection of their favorite things. For example, get him his favorite video game or get her a DVD set of Sex and the City. This is not only thoughtful, but fun and exciting to unwrap as well. If you don’t know what their favorite show, movie, album, or book is, then buy some clothing that is their favorite color or that they’ve been asking for.

You could also go the romantic route and get your loved one a frame of your favorite picture of the two of you. Maybe even create an entire photo album. Also, don’t forget to use your talents to make a meaningful gift. If you’re a writer, write a short romantic story about how you fell in love. Or if you’re a musician, create an album of love songs that describe how you feel about your partner.

I don’t think anyone is going to complain if you go with one of these options. Above all, just remember that even if you don’t like the gift your significant other gave you, they spent time and money to try and get you something you’d enjoy. Appreciate the fact that you have someone to buy you gifts at all. Now, go wrap your gifts, lovebirds!
