Christmas Spirit Runs Abound in the 9th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

The first snowstorm of the season marks the beginning of the Christmas (or holiday season) for many. For Seton Hall, it marks the beginning of an extremely exciting time of the year.

Despite the overwhelming talk about finals, being stressed out, and wanting to go home (among other things), there are a few ways that the Seton Hall community tries to ease its students’ pain in this dreaded time of year.

Odds are you’ve heard something about the Tree Lighting Ceremony that will be happening this Monday, December 3rd at 5:30 PM. If you haven’t here’s your friendly reminder- GO!

For several years, Seton Hall has been named the best college in America for Holiday events, with the first example always citing the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

Every year, the community pools their talents in an extravagant show. Beginning at 5:00 with a mass in the Chapel, Seton Hall will join together to celebrate the community, the holiday season, and the spirit of giving. This year’s lineup includes a performance from Seton Strings, the Sapphires, the Seton Hall Gospel Choir, Pretty Sharp, and a few others.

The Student Activities Board will be handing out Seton Hall’s trademark blue Santa hat at the ceremony so be sure to get there early before they run out.

DOVE will be sponsoring a gift collection again this year, where you can pick up a tag telling you an age range, gender, and a wish list for a family in need. Gifts are due to the Campus Ministry office by December 10th. DOVE will also be holding a drive at the ceremony where you can drop off your unwrapped toys or canned goods which will be blessed underneath the tree.

At the ceremony, there will be hot chocolate, candy canes, and Christmas spirit abound so come on by if you need a post-study session pick-me-up!
