5 Places to Shop If You’re Broke

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

1. ASOS

ASOS is an online retailer that is based in the UK, BUT has everything you could ever want. Think of it as the online version of Urban Outfitters that won’t make you feel like you were robbed every time you check your bank account. They carry everything from prom dresses and rompers, to bodysuits and crop tops. They also sell jewelry and accessories. They sell name brand so you never have to feel like you are being scammed and to add the cherry on top…..They have discounts for college students. Just sign up with your college email and you will receive a personalized code that will take 10% off your regular priced merchandise.

2. Forever 21

A classic store for every millennial, but what people do not know that Forever 21 implemented and rewards credit card program. The credit card gives the cardholder a chance to rack up points to use toward future purchases. Also, whenever a cashier asks for your email, give it to them. As annoying as it might sound companies like Forever 21 send out emails to alert their costumers of upcoming sales. They also sell leggings for $3, and leggings happen to be a standard in every girl’s closet.

3. Thrift Stores

Ever see an outfit on Instagram and the caption says “Thrift Store Haul,” well odds are it’s a lie. Very rarely, can you find vintage pieces in a thrift store and actually be able to purchase them. The key to a good thrift store shopping experience is to go in with no expectations, but also just look for pieces to add to your outfit. Finding a cute hat or maybe a distressed flannel is more likely than finding vintage Gucci or Versace. Do not be afraid to find pieces and then make them your own. Scissors are your best friend when it comes to thrifting. Some thrift stores even sell graphic tees for $5, better than the $45 dollars Urban Outfitters charges.

4. Target

Target is a personal heaven for everyone who like to go to one store and get everything in one shot. Target consistently has sales on clothing. You can buy a whole outfit head to toe for under $100 if you do it right. Target often offers Buy One Get One Free or Buy One Get One 50% off deals every week. Look through the flyer and search. You will be surprised by what you find.

5. Your Moms Closet

This is better place to find vintage clothing then from your mother. My mother used to make her own clothes back in the day, and a lot clothing that was popular then is coming back into style now. With some minor alterations, you can turn you mom jeans into a new piece. Once again, Scissors are you friend. The best part of it all, ITS 100% FREE.
