For a lot of people, working out can be a dreadful activity. It can be time-consuming, unenjoyable, overwhelming, and even intimidating. If this is you, don’t worry; you’re not alone. However, it’s one of the best ways to keep ourselves physically and mentally healthy. Consistently working out reduces the risk of noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. But, as we know, mental health is equally as important. When you exercise, your brain changes a series of chemicals. Serotonin and endorphins increase while stress hormones decrease, resulting in a more positive and happy mood. I’m sure we can all agree that the pros of exercising outweigh the cons.

But where do you start? What can you do to make working out more enjoyable? How do you know what works best for you? Fitness classes have been shown to motivate people to exercise because they offer a social aspect while also providing a great workout and instilling confidence. Luckily for us, San Diego is full of fitness studios that provide free trials for potential members! It’s nice because they don’t expect you to commit to a membership if you don’t want to, and it’s a fun way to explore different workouts for no cost at all! Here is a list of fitness studios that offer free trial classes that are worth a try:

Hi! My name is Ariana and I am a fourth-year Public Health major! I've lived in San Diego for the past three years, but I am originally from Bakersfield, California. I love to hang out with friends and family, go to the beach, and try new restaurants :)
