How to set yourself up for a great semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Scranton chapter.

Summer break has come to an end, and with the new semester beginning, we’re experiencing all the stressors that come with it. It can be overwhelming, especially if your first year. Whether you’re facing a hard class or preparing for graduation, there are a lot of things to be anxious about. But with a positive attitude and a bit of organization, you can tackle the new semester. Here are some tips to help get you organized now, and for the rest of the semester.

  • Purchase a New Planner.

Pick out a cute planner for the new year and outline upcoming events you already know about. Also, start writing down your upcoming assignments as you receive all your syllabi. This will make such a difference now and throughout the semester. Having everything down on paper and knowing what your priorities need to be will help you de-stress and maximize productivity.

  • Keep Your Living Space Clean.

Use the new semester to redecorate your dorm or apartment. If you start off neat and tidy, you’ll be more likely to stay that way as the year goes on. Try incorporating new decorations to spice up your space! If you organize now, it’ll be easier to maintain throughout the semester. Set aside one day a week where you and your roommate or squadmates clean. It will help you guys bond, and stay on top of the cleaning.

  • Destress at the gym.

Hit the gym and adapt a new workout routine. Also, try to eat healthier and drink lots of water. After all, a healthy you is a happy and productive you. For me, working out is a natural stress reliever, and it will give you a break from the hecticness of college life to focus on you.

  • Get Involved.

Try a school group that’s related to your major, join a club sports team, join Her Campus or try going greek. Step out of your comfort zone and try something you have been wanting to do, but haven’t had the courage to start yet. This will give you an outlet to make new friends and de-stress.

  • Self Care

Not to sound like a broken record, but self care is necessary in college. Figure out the things you can do that help you unwind when you feel overwhelmed. Set aside some time each week to do things like apply a facemask, listen to music, or go for a run. Make sure you are taking good care of yourself, because school can get the best of you.

  • Save Time to Have Fun.

Go out with your friends or plan something that you can all do together. You only do college once, so make some memories. There are so many cost effective things you can do.

I hope these tips help you guys have a great semester!
