It’s become common knowledge that putting oils (or any products containing oil) on your face will make your acne worse, and should be avoided at all costs.

But what if I told you this wasn’t true?

Don’t worry, I used to believe this as well. For years, I struggled with acne. I tried every facial wash, cream, and medication, and nothing seemed to work. Even if it worked temporary, the zits would instantly come back.

Then, out of desperation, I tried Jojoba Oil and Tea Tree Oil. Since then, by applying these oils to my face almost every night, I’ve been able to get rid of my pesky acne, and keep it by bay.

The right kinds of essential, natural oils can heal your skin, balance moisture levels, and regulate sebum production. However, not all oils are created equal. Different skin types (oily, dry, and combination) call for different types of oils.

But how do you find the right oils for your skin type?

Well look no further: your guide to acne-free skin is here:

FOR DRY SKIN:

1)   Avocado Oil

This oil is filled with antioxidants and vitamins, like A, B, C, E and K, which keep skin moisturized and counteract free radical damage. It’s also high in Omega-6 fatty acids, which leaves skin hydrated and reduces inflammation.

2)   Olive Oil

This oil is perfect if you have blackheads or are trying to get rid of acne scars. It’s naturally anti-bacterial, which will help kill the germs that cause acne. It also removes dead skin cells that clog your skin’s pores.

FOR COMBINATION SKIN:

1)     Sesame Oil

Sesame oil is known as “the queen of oils” for a reason. It’s rich in protein and an antioxidant compound called Sesamol. Because of this, it can clear out of the dirt and sebum clogging your pores, while also enhancing the texture of your skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

2)     Castor Oil

Castor oil comes from the castor bean, which are mainly grown in Eastern Africa and India.

This oil stimulates the production of collagen, helping to hydrate your skin. The ricinoleic acid in this oil reduces inflammation, swelling, and redness. It also contains undercylenic acid, which disinfects and kills the bacteria that cause acne.

FOR OILY SKIN:

1)    Jojoba Oil

This oil is pretty amazing, and here’s why. Its chemical make-up is so similar to sebum (the overabundance of this is what causes acne), that it tricks the body into believing that it’s already produced enough. Because of this, your skin will become less oily over time, and your pores won’t get clogged as frequently.

2)    Tea Tree Oil

This one is great for oily skin types because it controls oil production. It penetrates the skin by disinfecting your pores and drying out whiteheads, blackheads, and regular zits. Lastly, it contains terpinen-4-ol, which destroys the bacteria on your skin that causes acne.
