Chesapeake Hummus Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD chapter.

Never in a million years would I (or anyone that personally knows me) think I would be writing a recipe. Yup, you read that right. Angela actually cooking something that is not frozen/comes in a box.

Even though my favorite Football team has not been playing their best this year (come on Ravens 1-5 really?) I make a day of weekend NFL games. This includes inviting friends over, watching the games, and enjoying really yummy food.

Like most people who go away to college, I’m currently missing home A LOT! But I have to say, after creating this Maryland-inspired appetizer, I’m feeling like I’m almost at home. Check out this Chesapeake Hummus recipe, which will have your houseguest begging for more.  Also shout out to my Dad for coming up with the name of the recipe (hi dad)

What you’ll need

1 can of Garbanzo Beans (chickpeas)

Olive Oil

Garlic Powder

Old Bay Seasoning

Food Processor

*optional crabmeat*

Directions

1. Drain the can of chickpeas, and place them in the food processor

2. Add ¼ cup of olive oil to the food processor.

3. When it comes to adding the garlic powder and Old Bay, it’s all up to your taste preference. Personally, I only add 2 pinches of garlic powder and 1 tablespoon of Old Bay to the hummus.

4. *OPTIONAL*If you’re feeling brave, add some already-cooked crabmeat. I prefer lump vs. claw, but again, it’s a preference thing

5. Turn on the food processor, and keep it running for about 45 seconds.

6. Pour hummus into a serving bowl with crackers, celery, or bread, and enjoy!

Hello! My name is Angela Kastrunes. I am a senior Fashion Marketing and Management student at SCAD. I am the founder/CC for Her Campus-SCAD. Our chapter has grown so much over the past 3 years. I'm excited to say we have expanded to the Atlanta campus, and now have over 20 members combined. It's very bittersweet to realize this is my last year, working as a CC for HC. After graduation I hope to either work in social media management, PR for a fashion brand/music label, or as an editor of a fashion magazine (or Her Campus Nationals).
