Welcome back ladies and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful break and is ready to conquer is Quarter. The ladies of Her Campus and Bee Empowered have some amazing things planned for you this quarter, but first, let’s introduce ourselves.

For anyone who may be new to SCAD Atlanta and these organizations, here’s a little background to catch you up. As described on the official Her Campus website, Her Campus is Her Campus is the #1 new-media brand for the empowered college woman. Written entirely by the world’s top college journalists – with 12,000+ contributors and counting – HerCampus.com features national Style, Beauty, Health, Love, Life, Career, Entertainment, News, DIY, LGBTQ+, High School, and After College content supplemented by local content from 370+ campus chapters nationwide and in 11 countries. Bee Empowered is Her Campus at SCAD Atlanta’s little sister organization, exclusive to SCAD Atlanta. Not pictured is Serica Weaver who serves as Treasurer who stays securing our bag (yaaaas, sis) and our bomb ass Chapter Advisor and fellow Staff Writer Dominique S. Johnson. I love all of my Her Campus and Bee Empowered sisters, but I’m partial to Dominique because she lives in a different state, is a professor, author, screenwriter, and so much more but still makes time for us. In short, she epitomizes #BlackGirlMagic.

Okay, now to talk about what we’re actually doing this quarter.

January- First up, the Women’s March (of Atlanta). Ladies, it’s time to march again. Our chapter will meet at 11:30 a.m. on tomorrow where we’ll then make our way to the march starting at the Atlanta Beltline. The march is from noon to 3 p.m. No, you don’t have to be a member of either organization or any organization for that matter to participate.  If you’re able, join us for the march. If you’re not able to physically join us, tune in to our social media where we’ll be going live from the march. This is probably a good time to mention following us on Instagram @hcscadatl and scadatlbeempowered. No pressure, though. This will be a chance to bond. Also, the Women’s March is how we’re officially kicking off the quarter.

Of course, one of the highlights of February is Valentine’s Day. February is also Black History Month. HC and BE are celebrating both is a nontraditional way. To honor Black History and maintain our theme of media, we’re doing a few profile articles on some amazing Black women who inspire and empower us, pun intended. Some of them are even fellow SCAD Bees. Stay tuned to see who we’re featuring.

I just so happen to love Valentine’s Day even as a single woman. Just in case no one has never told you, you don’t have to have to be boo’d up to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Nor do you have to be alone. Bee Empowered is hosting a Galentine’s Day Movie Night February 13, 2019, 8:00 p.m. in the DMC theatre. We’re still deciding on the film, but I can guarantee it’s a must see. Candy grams, popcorn, and your besties. Be on the lookout for flyers around The Hub for more info.

Of course, we’ll have our chapter meetings, info sessions, and you’ll see us around campus promoting both organizations. Also, we’re open to attending events too. If you’re interested in collaborating with us or inviting us to an event, please contact us at scad-atl@hercampus.com or send us a dm. Also, we’re always looking for writers and content creators.

Before you log off, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that March is Women’s History Month. Those plans are soon to come.

I hope you learned something new about Her Campus and Bee Empowered. See you at one of our events or around campus!

SCAD ATL '20

I am Mia (same letters rearranged). I'm a part-time Grammarian, Pro Black, Christian, Feminist, Ambivert, Empath, and Lover of Life. If I'm not in class or working, I can usually be found napping or binge watching something on Netflix, lol.
High-spirited fashion designer with sound knowledge about the management and promotional aspects of the industry. My inquisitive nature enables me to discover efficient ways of streamlining marketing approaches to reach target audience. The process of translating various topics into a collection of garments after intensive research and visual development, makes me feel empowered because it is a unique medium of self-expression. However, I am fully aware of the importance of marketing a product in order to gain the best results which makes me equally passionate about both the aspects of Fashion World
