New Years Eve

I will never see you again.

Once in a while you’ll appear in a dream.

to dap me up, smile and feel the sun.

No future do you have but cement and steel.

A blade had made its home in your pocket since we were freshmen

“I’ll poke a guy if I have to” you would say.

We laugh, too stoned to think about consequences.

Too stoned to think about a life being taken.

Too stoned to comprehend the power of a blade

Two swift motions,

is all it took.

One to the chest

One to the stomach.

You always had quick hands.

Red rivers gush

then dry up as quickly as a flash flood.

Red lights come and go.

Calls come in.

He’s dead.

A ball of ice makes its home in my abdomen

Words fly around like crows on a cloudy day.

“Who did it?”

“Were gonna get that mother f*cker”

…..

“Yo it was tequile”

Nah it can’t be

“he turned himself in”

Hot frustration fills my cheeks.

The ball of ice melts.

You were my friend.

You are my friend.

I do not hate you.

I am only sad.

When I think about

the life you could’ve had.
