Managing It All

We are at that point in the semester that I start questioning why I am involved in so much: exams are around the corner, jobs are up and running, clubs that I signed up for are having their events, and I’m over here trying to save time by eating breakfast in class every morning (I’m a firm believer that if you don’t eat and drink enough throughout the day, you will NOT perform as well). No, seriously, it’s a lot to handle. I have at least 20 unread messages from the past few days alone and (until today) hadn’t had my nails done in almost two weeks.

I want this article to be less about me complaining and more about relating to everyone else that’s also fallen into the first pit of the semester. It’s not easy, no matter what your major— okay, yes, some majors have more work involved than others, but bear with me because I’m trying to be compassionate, to have homework and other assignments piling up on you like heavy blankets, which, speaking of those, will be coming out soon if the weather keeps up. People start to get on your nerves, and we can’t forget about the mandatory sickness that has wiped out campus for the past couple of weeks.

When things do get busy like this, it’s important to give yourself grace and understanding. If you spend an hour on your phone out of the hour and a half of time in between classes, it is okay; sometimes you need a second of not studying. The semester comes in waves of business, and it doesn’t always last. When it does seem to last longer than usual, it is okay to take time for yourself and go on a walk, read a book, eat at a restaurant, or simply take a nap. Trust me, a nap does wonders.

Anyway, by now there are also some positives: the first homework grades have come back (for better or worse, at least they’re done with), I’ve made some new friends, and I’ve managed to keep up with Dancing With The Stars (everyone vote for Jackson Olson right now). I have some coupons for my favorite fast food places that are waiting to be spent, and some cute outfits ready to be worn.

And hey, at least fall break is around the corner, and THANKFULLY that’s coming with fall weather. So hang in there!
