Finding Peace In The Unknown

A few weeks ago was career week at our school. Alumni came back and talked to students about their carers. I had multiple dinners and meetings and talked to so many people. I took in their advice, along with their adventures and experiences. All of them held a different valuable message, but there was one message that flashed repeatedly.

Change is inevitable; get comfortable with it.

This has come to fruition multiple times throughout my life. In many different parts of my life, in school, work, personal life and more. And at every turn, it seemed to me that it was getting easier.

And now, maybe it is the weather or the change in season, but the change occurring is hitting harder than normal.

Another thing I know from years of therapy is that healing isn’t linear and everything comes in waves.

Currently in my life, one of my favorite professors is gone for a month, which seems like a short amount of time, but I used to laugh and laugh and even on the darkest days, there was light.

This summer, the whole office changed, and as of this past Wednesday, it continued. I know in academics, people move and people find new experiences for them. I am beyond happy for them, but the change that all occurred at once was shocking.

I came back to college and the two people I saw everyday aren’t here. Even though I knew it was coming, I don’t think I fully prepared myself for it. The people that made the change steady and the emotions waiver, were gone.

But change doesn’t also have to come as a consequence–often there is always a good part about change, a new experience, new job, new friends and more.

I am living in a good and healthy change. I am no longer an RA this year, and so I live in a townhouse with three other girls, and I am having the best time. We spend our nights watching movies, having family dinners, and paint nights. Our townhouse is set up with decorations and a vibe that is unbeatable.

When I first started college, I wasn’t good with change, and whilst I thought I was good with it, I am realizing I am in a downward wave, but it will come up again, and I’ll get comfortable with it again.

Change is truly inevitable, unstoppable and always happening, whether it’s something small, such as a change in time, weather, and more. It can also be something big like quitting or starting a new job, meeting new people, or moving to a new place.

Change also occurs, and whilst there is often a negative aspect to it, there is also a positive. Look at the positive.
