Life is so short. Times can be very stressful and chaotic. It’s best to fill your free time doing things you enjoy. When you need a break from schoolwork, friend drama, or just a way to relax, then fill your time with a hobby.

Having activities that you enjoy can help get you through a bad day or a busy week. Prioritize the tasks you have to get done so you can spend the rest of your time doing things you love.

Here are some potential activities to try and see if you enjoy them:

Photography

Taking photos can be very fun. A recent trend is documenting your day or week and posting candid photo dumps on Instagram. The photos can be of anything, a pretty flower you saw on your walk to class, a photo of the cheesiest pizza you ate for lunch or a photo of your cat basking in the sun. Photography is fun. Try being creative and find ways to express yourself through photography in your free time.

Baking

Making some yummy treats is a great way to spend your time. There are so many different types of things to bake. Cookies and cupcakes are fun to make and decorate. Spice up your options by making different kinds of bread. Trying to create a cool design on a pie crust could be a fun challenge. Go as crazy or as simple as you want in the kitchen, as long as you’re enjoying the time.

Reading

Sitting down and diving into a book you’re actually interested in is life-changing. School has taught us to hate reading or get annoyed by reading. Finding a topic you enjoy or a book with a fascinating plot will draw you in. There are so many books out there. Consider taking a trip to a local library or bookstore to find something that piques your interest. Make reading something you enjoy again.

Exercising

Running does not have to be the only form of exercise. There are so many things you can do to get active. Yoga and stretching are calm and soothing ways to move your body. Going on a walk or a hike is a great way to get steps in. Rock climbing and paddle boarding engages your arms and core muscles. Joining a fitness class such as Orangetheory or F45 Training can be a great way to motivate you to stay fit; you might even make some new friends.

These are just a few ideas but there are so many more amazing hobbies out there like knitting, playing an instrument or learning another language. You should find a few things you love to do and spend your free time doing what you love.
